Kory Minor, five-year veteran of the NFL and currently a nationally recognized author and motivational speaker interviewed with our Middle School and Early Education students for his thoughts on his family legacy and being part of a biracial family and father of three children. Johnny Marmelstein and Marco Camargo hosted the interview followed by a Q & A session with Kory Minor as part of our celebration of Black History Month. Kory spoke about his family legacy as a child and how they instilled in him a winning attitude and dedication.
Kory shared growing up with his mother and grandmother and how they taught him dedication by their example of hard work. His grandmother worked long hours in a barber shop in Los Angeles. Kory dreamed of attending Notre Dame at the young age of 6, and created a wall of memorabilia to visualize his dream which he did achieve and more. He shared with students the need to visualize their dreams and write steps down with solutions to chart a course to accomplish their dreams.
Kory answered questions about what can students do now to prepare for their future. He told them Mindset is important to achieve their dreams. Mindset includes self-talk to keep negative thoughts away, having a winning attitude even when you get knocked down, get back up and find a way to win. Also, aligning yourself with the right people that challenge you to do your best and encourage you to reach your goals.
Some fun questions included who is the greatest player you played against and knocked down? The answer is Tom Brady. Also, who is the greatest player that played your position? His answer, Jim Brown but also liked Bo Jackson and Walter Payton.
Minor played high school football at Bishop Amat and was an All-American. He was named the Defensive Player of the Year by USA Today. He went on to start as linebacker at Notre Dame his dream school. Minor was selected in the ninth round by the San Francisco 49ers in the 1999 NFL Draft, and later played four seasons with the Carolina Panthers.
Currently, Minor is the Head Coach for St. Margaret’s Episcopal School. He is also a best-selling author of “Make a Touchdown Out of Your Life” and “The Playbook that Produces Elite Sales Teams that Dominate & Win.” Kory is the Founder and CEO of Kory Minor Training & Consultants, which is a Training Company for large to small corporations.
