Picasso Cubist Style - Mixed Media Cat

Roxanne Kane
Third grade students listened to poems by T.S. Eliot from the book, “Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats,” which was the inspiration for “CATS,” the musical. They recalled Picasso’s Cubist style, and investigated his works on a deeper level than they had in Grades Kindergarten or One, using a variety of materials and deliberately working with color, shape, and form in order to invent unique abstract cats, incorporating original segments of poetry describing their felines! These activities tied into the classroom IB Unit of Inquiry entitled, “How We Express Ourselves.”
