Junior Kindergarten
In Jr. Kindergarten, the St. Mary's program builds upon what was taught in Preschool. On a daily basis, students are engaged in language activities that include teacher read stories from a variety of genre, rhyming, reading comprehension, dictation journals, and language manipulation. Through games, manipulatives, collaborative projects, and direct instruction, the students gain concrete knowledge of upper and lower case letter recognition. Numeracy is an important skill for young children. Rote counting, number recognition, and measuring through standard and non-standard units of measurement, one to one correspondence, sequencing and patterning, and learning to identify and classify objects according attributes are skills students at St. Mary’s will learn through the use of hands on activities and manipulatives.
