Athletics
The St. Mary's athletic program is unique in that it is centered around the philosophy of an all inclusive sports program. The program focuses on the whole athlete, where athletic ability, life skills, team work, and learning take place. Students have the opportunity to explore multiple sports, at a younger age, and learn to participate in a team and as a team member. In many instances there are multiple teams within each sport to accommodate first year players and more competitive players. Participation is based around the three seasons of sports offered, and the school is a member of the Parochial Athletic League, where we compete against other local independent schools.

This all-inclusive fundamental philosophy, when coupled with the St. Mary's C4 training strategy, puts Character, Community, Competition, and Commitment at the center of each team. These core values work together to produce athletes that are well balanced and adjusted. Students learn to compete at their highest level while recognizing that winning the game isn't everything.
Character: Having character as an athlete means being respectful of the opposing team, a gracious winner and a gracious loser. Athletes treat others as they would want to be treated, picking up an opponent when down; respectful of the opponent, the official, teammates, the coach, themselves and the game.
Community: Athletes understand that they are a representative of the team, the school, and a larger community. Community is an awareness that they serve others while striving to be a personal and team leader.
Competition: The key component to being a competitive player is knowing that playing at your highest level is better than winning. Competition is continuing to fight even when you’re down and holding yourself to the highest standards of play.
Commitment: Learning to balance academics, sports and other activities to ensure full commitment to every aspect of your life. Athletes are committed to their teammates and their coach and putting their team first. When making any decision they ask themselves, “what would be best for the team?”
