Brutocao Library Media Center

Welcome to the Brutocao Library/Media Center at St. Mary’s. Our library/media center serves the entire preschool – eighth grade community with access to a growing collection of children’s and young adult literature and print and electronic media to sustain various learning styles. Promoting a love of reading, our school will once again participate in the annual California Young Reader Medal Program during the upcoming school year.

The primary student library area houses a large collection of early reader fiction and nonfiction volumes as well as numerous picture books for exciting and enjoyable story times. An extensive list of fiction and nonfiction volumes and a reference section comprise the upper grades library area. An information center of 26 networked computers allows students to access the Internet, falcon.net and the World Wide Web, as well as database and online reference materials. A presentation area is used for information skills instruction by individual classes and for student and faculty workshops and presentations throughout the year.

As an integral facilitator of the school’s International Baccalaureate philosophy of student-inquiry-driven learning, the Library/Media Center functions as the heart of St. Mary’s throughout the school day. It accommodates a flow of information-seeking students who come and go as needed to support their learning, investigate their interests, pinpoint their solutions, and exercise and develop their critical thinking skills. It is our goal that they learn to use ideas and information effectively and efficiently, and through research and information skills learning, that they become ever more confident in their information problem solving and critical thinking abilities.
